I have a few jumbled thoughts on tonight's episode, but I'll have to wait until tomorrow to rewatch it on Space.

I absolutely adored the way Dean said "it's Halloween, dude." awww. He actually sounded like he was about fifteen. And then later in the car when he had a pile of wrappers and he was kind of holding his stomach. Dean, you are a champion of bad choices. But I still love you.

Castiel is really growing on me. I know I've always liked him, but he seems more caring now than he did before. The way he looked so small against Uriel (stupid evil angel dude, gah) and the way he looks so rumpled and he just looks like he really loves Dean. Really loves him and wants to fold him up in his angel wings and just protect him from everything. I love how obedient Castiel is, never wavering despite his admitting he's unsure. His confiding in Dean at the end of the episode broke me. It's like Dean has a friend now, instead of just a nuisance, and with Sam going to the pit, he needs a friend. Badly.

I like the little snatches of hell we get every now and then. They're so unexpected and scattered that we don't expect them but each time is a little more telling. I need to know what happened there. What Dean did. I think we're going to find out next week, if the end of tonight's eppy was any indication. I really hope so. I think Sam needs to know what's in store for him if he does take that fall into darkness.

It broke my heart when Sam's faith was crushed. The way he was so excited to meet the angels (and then Castiel hesitated in shaking his hand - confusion or fear? what do you think?). But then his view of them was crushed and he saw that they aren't beautiful white beings of light. My heart broke a little more when Dean told him to keep his faith. When Dean was the one who seemed to mock him for it earlier, and now Dean wants Sammy to have that. Because Sammy needs that. I can't imagine what it would be like to have your entire belief crushed in ten minutes. And Dean was there, trying to comfort his Sammy.

I know I'm not the only one who saw it - Sam's eyes seemed to change colour when he was exercising the demon. They did right? Some people say it's because of the shadows and the lighting and such but I'm not sure I'm convinced. Screen caps are posted at dean_sam so you can have a look for yourself, but I have a feeling.

And last thought that I had pertains to the "brother-sister" kiss. This is the second time this season that "family members" have kissed. I know they're possessed and whatnot, but Supernatural is blurring the lines of reality with what I'd expect in a fandom. I kind of thought they had to "go there" with the Mary/Gramps kiss, but this was such a surprise and a sudden twist that I didn't really have time to process it until later. It just makes me think. My Wincest side tells me it's because of Sam/Dean and it's as close an acknowledgment we're going to get about that, but then my reality brain checks in and says I have to look deeper than that. It can't be a mistake. It hasn't happened before in the series and now twice in less than half a season? It just seems a little suspect to me.
